The FILTRAFLOTM-P reactor to recover P from wastewater through a filtration/adsorption process

Within Phos4You, the Environmental Research Institute, Scotland has been developing the FILTRAFLOTM-P reactor together with Veolia, France to recover P from wastewater through a filtration/adsorption process.

This unit uses enhanced gravitational filtration through a crab carapace-based adsorbent. Trials have assessed how FILTRAFLOTM-P would operate under ‘real’ conditions and ascertained the effectiveness of the adsorbent to recover P. A six week trial was carried out at Scottish Water Horizons Development Centre at Bo’ness in early 2020.
