Phytosudoe

The objective of Pythosudoe  was to make advances in the management pf degraded and contanimated areas and their rehabilitation using phytotechnologies which promote soil biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and the sustainable use of resources.

A network of contaminated and/or degraded field sites covering various pedo-climatic zones was established, and different phytomanagement options were implemented and monitored for improvements in soil quality and functionality. The project carried out technical workshops and summer schools in order to raise awareness and know-how of implicated stakeholders (public authorities and governmental groups, environmental and conservation organisations, the general public, scientific community, industrial sector and end-users).

The project was structured around 7 working packages, 4 technical packages (WPs) and 3 transversal groups (WP.Ts):

Technical working packages (WP)

WP1: Characterisation and risk assessment of currently contaminated or degraded sites and implementation of suitable phytomanagement options.

WP2: Characterisation and assessment of biodiversity in relation to phytomanagement options.

WP3: Exploring prospects of functional diversity “engineering” to improve phytomanagement efficiency.

WP4: Recovery of key ecological functions in phytomanaged sites providing vital ecosystem services.

Transversal WP.T:

- Project management.

- Project communication.

- Project monitoring and evaluation.
