Sustainable Waste Management

The session will focus on social and environmental impact of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, “recycling” and “recovery” of waste materials while paving the way towards circular economy. In addition, considering the current pandemic situation, this session will also give a special attention towards the COVID-19’s unsustainable waste management.

Micro(nano)plastics in the Environments

Micro(nano)plastics are small plastic particles, including plastic fragments, fibers, or beads. Although micro(nano)plastics are defined in numerous size ranges, they are generally discarded upon overuse and finally led to its accumulation in the environment enabling them to persist for years due to its durability. This session showcases the production of micro(nano)plastics worldwide and how over 80% of the marine plastic litter is assumed to have originated from mismanaged land-based waste which are not otherwise identified. It will also reveal the impacts on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and human beings and propose solutions for problems and scenarios, such as prevention, recycling and reuse with sustained use of biodegradable plastics.
