Van Alphen, established in 2005 in Axel (NL), is a manure processor integrated in an active livestock farm. In 2010 the complex was extended with a biomass (manure) co-digestion installation aiming at the production of biogas followed by energy production (electricity/heat) using CHP. The electricity is fed into local grid whereas the heat is partially used for heating purposes. In order to optimise the mesophilic digestion process the system is occasionally fed with maize, beets, vegetables and fruits (co-digestion).
